David Mullens

David Mullens, DPM, JD, was a community surgeon in the orthopedic department of Stanford University Hospital for 36 years and, with overlapping careers, has been a health care attorney for 22 years. During the last five years of his law practice, he represented radiation oncology groups against Medicare regarding denied claims. He wrote “How to Win Medicare Appeals” for the American Bar Association, and the book was published in 2020. The book is written in short question/short answer format and takes the reader through the Medicare appeals process, asking and answering the questions that arise during Medicare appeals. Peter Bergé

Peter I. Bergé, JD, MPA, PA-C Emeritus became a medicolegal consultant and educator in 2016 after 12 years of litigation law practice concentrating in medical malpractice/personal injury and 22 years of varied PA practice. He was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 2004 and licensed as a PA in New York State since 1987 after practicing in California. Barbara Levin

Barbara Levin, BSN, RN, ONC, CMSRN, LNCC is the Clinical Scholar of the orthopaedic trauma unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has great passion for orthopaedics and medical surgical nursing and co-authored "Legal Implications in the Care of Orthoapaedic Patients: Serious Complications" for an international audience with Patricia Iyer. The Massachusetts Governor appointed Barbara to the Massachusetts Board of Nursing and in 2017 she was named Chair of this prestigious board and completed her terms in 2020 where she reviewed and opined on all complaints and licensure issues. Ms. Levin served as President of the AALNC and also served on its board for five years. Ms. Levin is a Legal Nurse Consultant Certified. Of note, Barbara testifies as an expert witness nationally on a variety of topics including cervical spine emergencies. Barbara served on the NAON Executive Board - Director (2012-2015). Currently, she serves on the NAON Foundation. In addition, she has published and lectured extensively about patient safety, orthopaedics, and documentation practices.

Pat Iyer

Pat Iyer, MSN, RN, LNCC began testifying as a liability expert witness in 1987 and added expert fact witness testimony in 1992. She established a highly successful independent legal nurse consulting business in Flemington, NJ, in 1989. David M. Benjamin is a Ph.D.- trained Clinical Pharmacologist & Forensic Toxicologist, a trained arbitrator and mediator, and an internationally-recognized scholar in Legal Medicine, Reducing Medication Errors, the Drug Development Process, Designer Drugs and Forensic Toxicology. Dr. Benjamin completed his Ph.D. in Pharmacology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1972 and did his specialty training in Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1972-73. He then spent 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry conducting clinical research, assessing adverse drug effects, writing package inserts, and filing INDs and NDAs.

Dr. Benjamin has authored more than 250 presentations and publications and 9 textbook chapters. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the American College of Legal Medicine (thru 1/2021) and is a member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists.

Dr. Benjamin teaches Clinical Pharmacology at Tufts Medical School and Forensic Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Drug Development at Northeastern University, where he holds an appointment as Affiliate Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

He has taught Reducing Medication Errors at the Harvard Medical School Risk Management program, and was a frequent guest lecturer in Scientific Evidence at George Washington University School of Law and Stetson Law School for many years where he has taught classes in McNeely v. Missouri and Designer Drugs, Synthetic Cannabinoids and the Federal Analogue Act.

Joanne Walker

Joanne Walker has been a nurse for over 40 years and has extensive clinical experience in the perioperative area. She has worked as a Legal Nurse Consultant since 2007 and has testified as an expert witness at trial. She founded Clarity Medical Legal Consulting in 2009. Joanne's interest in Nursing Research has developed over her career, both in the OR and as a Legal Nurse Consultant. Her goal is to de-mystify the science of research for other LNCs. Joanne is a member of several professional organizations, keeping up to date in clinical advances to retain her RN license and assist her clients with their research needs. Her mission as Chair of the LNC Advisor program is to help LNCs with their growth as business owners.

Stormy Green

Stormy has been a registered nurse for over forty years and has extensive experience in surgical services. Her roles in surgical services included scrub nurse, circulator, first assistant, educator, and manager. As a manager, she also oversaw related departments such as GI Lab, PACU, Infusion Center, and pre-op testing while still maintaining her clinical skills.

Within AALNC, Stormy has been an active member of the Editor Committee for JLNC since early 2015. She has had numerous opportunities to publish articles and was an author and peer reviewer for AALNC’s book Legal Nurse Consulting Principles and Practices, 4th Edition. Stormy was also the AALNC Social Media Chair - 2020.

Stormy’s volunteer leadership positions with the WVUOV Chapter include 2017 President-elect, 2018 President, and 2019 Director-at-Large. These leadership roles have provided Stormy with opportunities to help other LNC develop their skills through mentoring.

Claire Hull

Clarann Hull is co-author of the book; Ending Hospital Readmissions: A Blueprint for Homecare Providers. She is also the creator of Juris Educational Resource Knowledge for Legal Nurse Consultants and Owner of Nurse Entrepreneur Network. Both companies serve as a network of legal nurses who provide both written behind the scenes and verbal expert opinions. Following over thirty years of surgical, home care nursing, and case management, Claire functioned as a key behind-the-scenes legal nurse in several high-profile med mal, toxic tort, and pharmaceutical cases.
